You must try a few of these.  Coordinates are on a North-South axis with the origin at Downtown Berkeley BART.  All are on Shattuck Ave, except for Gather.

****Comal:  Awesome nouveau Mexican, $$$ 200 ft N, on the left.

**Jupiter:  Fun brewery and dinner $$, across the street from BART.

****Gather:  Fun, loud, veggie and vegan options, $$$  800 ft SE.  Across the street: **Saturn veggie diner, $.

*****Chez Panisse Cafe':  For some of us, the definition of good food, $$$.  Keep this a secret: You can walk in after 10pm. 0.7 mi N, on the right.

*****Chez Panisse:  Probably too late to make a reservation, $$$$.  0.7 mi N, on the right.

***Trattoria di Corso:  Fine reasonably authentic Italian, $$$.  0.4 mi N, on the left.

**Cafe (Gr)atitude: Vegan. A fun, strange, and easily avoidable Berkeley experience, $$.  0.5 mi N on the left.

****Cha Ya:  Japanese vegan, $$  0.6 mi N, on the left.

***Cha Am Thai:  Excellent sea food, $$.   0.7 mi N, on the right.

**Liaison:  Solid basic French, $$.  0.3 mi N on the right.

****Cesar:  Barcelona tapas, drinks $$, .7 mi N on the right.
