Title: An Incomplete Survey of Matrix Completion. Speaker: Ben Recht (University of Wisconsin) Abstract: In this talk, I will survey recent advances on the low-rank matrix completion problem, discussing both theoretical and algorithmic advances in this rapidly growing area. I will situate matrix completion in the context of prior art in fast randomized matrix factorizations. I will proceed to highlight connections to current and future work applying convex geometry to solve general linear inverse problems. The talk will conclude by highlighting some of the unresolved problems in this area.
